Leading Off
Fresh off of a three-game sweep of East Central this past Sunday-Monday, the Southern Arkansas Baseball team is one the road once more and will face its toughest conference test in the early portion of the schedule as they are taking on No. 24-ranked Oklahoma Baptist.
Thanks to the sweep of ECU, the Muleriders are heading into the series against the Bison at 10-4 overall and 5-1 in the GAC. Oklahoma Baptist also is 5-1 in league play and have reached double-figure wins entering the weekend as they are 10-3 overall.
In the early season, the Muleriders are hitting .275 as a team. Senior
Jake Tisevich leads the team in average at .400 (12-for-30) while classmates
Jacob Richardson and
Mark Fontenot lead the team in home runs (Richardson - 6, Fontenot - 5) and RBIs
(Fontenot & Richardson - 17), respectively.
On the mound, the Muleriders have posted a 3.58 team ERA and are being led by left-hander
Kenneth Tabor. The senior is 3-1 and had the lowest ERA among starters at 2.35 in 23.0 innings pitched. Redshirt freshman
Tanner Vaught has been tremendous in relief with a 1.42 ERA in five appearances. Junior
Eric White has registered two saves in four appearances and has a 0.00 ERA.
The Bison are hitting .352 as a team and have seven from their regular lineup hitting .333 or higher with three of those over .430. The leading hitter is Juan Gonzalez at .462 (18-for-39). He also leads the team in RBIs with 13. Zane Gelphman is the team leader in home runs with six.
On the Mound, the OKB pitching staff has registered a 3.89 ERA. The starting staff is led by Albertus Barber as he has won all four of his starts and sports 3.38 ERA. As a staff. OKB have struck out 146 batters
