BONHAM, Texas – The No.7-ranked Lady Muleriders secured the series sweep over East Central on Monday after a combined 20 runs on 17 hits led to a run-rule victory in game one, 13-5, in five innings, and a 7-4 final decision in game two.
With today's wins, Head Coach
Jason Anderson now owns the all-time program record in wins at 137 after four seasons, surpassing Kevin Blaskowski's previous record of 136 wins, in which he accumulated in five seasons at SAU.
HOW IT HAPPENED- GAME ONE
East Central broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning after putting up two runs on three hits to take the first lead, 2-0.
In the next inning, the Tigers tacked on three more runs on three hits to extend their lead out to 5-0 over SAU before the Lady Muleriders retaliated in the bottom of the frame to take the lead over ECU, 10-5.
In that frame,
Monica Islava and
Jill Roye plated the first pair of runs on a pair of hits to make it 5-2, ECU.
Marina Duran drew a walk to load the bases for SAU, and Islava would later score on a wild pitch before
Kiara Bonner laced a single up the middle to knot the game at 5-all.
Rachel Miller plated a pair of runs after that on an infield single to give SAU the lead, 7-5, and
Brooke Goad would extend that lead shortly after on a 3-run blast over the left-center field wall to make it 10-5.
The Lady Tigers stranded a pair of runners in the fifth as a pair of homeruns in the bottom of the frame secured the run-rule victory for the Lady Muleriders, courtesy of
Faith Otts' 2-run homer to left field and Bonner's solo bomb that accounted for the walk-off win.
HOW IT HAPPENED- GAME TWO
A sacrifice fly in the third inning off the bat of Islava gave the Lady Muleriders a 1-0 lead through four innings before East Central answered in the top of the fifth with three runs on three hits to take a 3-1 lead over SAU.
In the bottom of that frame, Roye drew a 2-out walk that brought Duran to the plate where she would follow with a 2-run blast to centerfield that tied the game at 3-all.
Jolie Trahan, in her first start in the circle for the Lady Muleriders, worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth inning, and SAU, in the bottom of that frame, would back Trahan with four runs to take the lead, 7-3.
Maeson Grace scored the go-ahead run in that inning on a batted ball by Bonner to make it 4-3, SAU, and Goad came to the plate two batters later and left the yard in her at-bat with a 3-run shot to center field to push the Lady Muleriders to a 7-4 victory over ECU.
