Leading Off
Weather not withstanding, the Southern Arkansas baseball team will open up its 2018 Great American Conference slate of games this weekend against Southeastern Oklahoma State. Originally scheduled for a Friday-Saturday series, persistent rain in the Magnolia area forced the series to shift to Sunday-Monday.

The Muleriders will enter the conference-opening series 4-3 on the young season while the Savage Storm will enter at 3-4. The Muleriders' most-recent action was a non-conference series against #17 Lindenwood University. SAU dropped the first two games of that series before claiming the final game. Southeastern last took the field for a mid-week contest with Central Oklahoma. The Savage Storm dropped that game 10-5.

Last year, the Muleriders and Savage Storm opened GAC play with a three-game set in Durant. The Muleriders would sweep that series over the Savage Storm as SAU got off to a great start in conference play en route to winning their fourth regular season GAC Championship in the league's six-year history.

In the early season, the Muleriders are led offensively by senior Jacob Richardson as the senior is hitting .385 with four home runs and seven RBIs. Classmate Kenneth Tabor sports the lowest ERA among starters for the Muleriders at 0.82 in 11.0 innings pitched. Redshirt freshman Tanner Vaught has been tremendous in relief with a 0.00 ERA in three appearances
