DURANT, Okla. – The Lady Mulerider Basketball team outlasted Southeastern Oklahoma on the road as the contest came to a 67-all tie with just 15 seconds left to play and Sophomore Guard
Kimberly Crown would connect with a free throw make on her subsequent trip to the charity stripe that lifted Southern Arkansas past the Savage Storm, 68-67.
Southern Arkansas capitalized on Southeastern's 17 turnovers in the game scoring 20 points. Both teams matched bucket for bucket in the first half as they each scored 17 points in the first quarter and then put up 13 points apiece in the second frame. Nine lead changes took place in the first half that eventually led to a 30-all tie at the intermission.
In the third quarter, back-to-back buckets from
Sue Key and
Kimberly Crown gave the Lady Muleriders a quick 4-point lead, 34-30. Southeastern would take the lead shortly after and maintain a slim advantage no larger than four points until 4:06 in the frame when
Olivia McWilliams connected with a jumper in the paint that reestablished the Lady Mulerider lead, 43-42.
That lead would last until the final minute of the frame as SOSU tallied seven points in that minute to take a 3-point advantage into the final quarter, 55-52.
In the final quarter, Crown made good on a pair of free throws to tie the contest at 57-all at 7:55. The Lady Muleriders then extended that lead out to five, 62-57, aided by Crown's layup at 6:40 and McWilliams' 3-point make at 4:47.
With just 15 seconds left to play, the Savage Storm tied the game at 67-all on a successful trip to the charity stripe that saw them make both free throw attempts. Crown would be sent to the line just a couple seconds later where she made 1-of-2 free throw attempts to pull SAU ahead by one, 68-67.
SAU continued to put pressure on SOSU's offense in their final possession as the Storm missed a layup with two seconds left that resulted in a 68-67 final decision, SAU.
