Muleriders come up short to Williams Baptist

Magnolia, Ark. – The SAU Women's Basketball team lost a back-and-forth matchup with the Williams Baptist Eagles by a single point, 52-51.

In a closely contested game where neither team held a double-digit lead, a second quarter where the Muleriders could only manage four points proved to be the difference.

Freshman Kylie Warren was the top scorer for the Muleriders, and joint-top scorer overall, with 17 points. The Carlisle native's career-high scoring night came on 5-10 shooting from the field, including 4-6 from three-point land and 3-4 from the free throw line. Warren, responsible for four of the team's made five-three pointers on the night, also notched a career-high two blocks on the night, as well as a steal in 20 minutes of game action.

The Eagles, behind the scoring of Blessing Samuel, improve to 6-4 overall on the season. The Nigerian international scored 17 points to go along with six rebounds in 23 minutes on the floor.

Redshirt sophomore Brette Wacha grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, as well as contributing three assists and two steals. Freshman guard Camryn Fennell led the playmaking for the Muleriders, tossing a game-high six of the team's 14 assists. Fennell also scored four points and forced two steals.

Sophomore Maggie Evans led the defensive effort for the Muleriders, recording three steals and two block as well as two points and three rebounds.

The one-point loss sees the Muleriders lose their closest game of the season, and drops them to a 1-8 overall record on the season despite having the lead in the game for 25 minutes and 12 seconds.

The Muleriders return to action on New Year's Eve as they host Mississippi College in their final non-conference tilt of the season.
