Magnolia, Ark. – In the last Mulerider athletics event taking place before Thanksgiving, the Muleriders welcome the Mississippi College Choctaws into the W. T. Watson Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The matchup will mark the Muleriders' last non-conference home game of the season.
The Muleriders (3-1) are coming off a week where they won both of their games, both of which were at home, and both of which came against non-conference opponents.
The Choctaws (2-1) are coming off a 78-73 home victory on the weekend over fellow GAC member Henderson State.
The Muleriders were victorious over the Southeastern Baptist College Chargers by a score of 94-55 last Tuesday. Senior guard
Draylan Perkins led the Muleriders in scoring that night, dropping 16 points on 5-11 shooting and 4-10 shooting from behind the arc. That game also saw four other Muleriders score in double digits –
CJ Elkins with 15,
Snyder Cenecharles with 13,
Aaron Lucas with 11, and
Gabe Gilliam with 10 points.
The Muleriders followed that performance up with a 93-66 win over Paul Quinn College on the weekend. Only having a seven-point lead at the half, the Muleriders outscored the Tigers by 20 points en route to a comfortable victory over the Dallas-based college. Gilliam was the leading scorer for the Muleriders, scoring 18 points on 6-9 shooting; however, he was 6-8 shooting from behind the three-point line.
Sophomore
DeVante Brooks posted a double-double in that game, with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman
Jalen Brooks scored 10 points, and Perkins was the other scorer in double digits, matching his game against Southeastern, scoring 16 points on 5-11 shooting.
The Muleriders will travel to Tennessee this weekend to take on Union University (Tenn.) in Jackson to wrap up the Thanksgiving break, as well as the non-conference schedule for the Muleriders.
