Crown registers eighth double-double in overtime defeat to Oklahoma Baptist, 77-82

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – For the eighth time this season Kimberly Crown has registered a double-double, with her 24 points in tonight's contest tying her season-high in points scored. Unfortunately, a late rally by the Lady Bison cut into the Lady Mulerider's lead, sending the game into overtime that eventually fell in Oklahoma Baptist's favor, 82-77, on Thursday night inside the W.T. Watson Center.

The Lady Bison saw the lead just one time in the first half, which came within 40 seconds of the opening frame, before the Lady Muleriders busted out 20 points in the first quarter to establish an early advantage, 20-14, and then continued that momentum into the second quarter to maintain the lead resulting in a 30-27 score at the intermission.

Coming out of the half, the Lady Muleriders engineered a 12-5 run in a little over three minutes of action to extend their lead out to 10, 42-32. In that sequence, Erin Brinkley connected with her very first free throw attempt of the season that pulled the Lady Muleriders ahead by eight.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bison used a 23-point scoring range to catch SAU's lead and send the game into overtime. OKB registered 16 of those points within the first five minutes of that frame to knot the game at 64-all. The Lady Bison grabbed a short-lived lead on a fast break layup nearly two minutes later as Sue Key registered a pair of successful trips down to the charity stripe, making 3-of-4 free throw attempts to put SAU back in the lead, 69-68, with just 1:14 left to play.

With 26 seconds left in the frame, Anna Djedjemel added a pair of points to the Lady Mulerider's lead, but OKB's leading scorer, McKenzie Cooper connected with a 3-point make in the final 12 seconds of the frame to send the game into overtime, tied at 71-all.

The Lady Bison established the early advantage in overtime play and scored 11 points in those five minutes of action that eventually led to a final decision of 82-77, OKB.

OF NOTE:
  • Crown's 24 points and 14 rebounds in the game prompted her eighth double-double of the season, and her 24 points tied her previous season-high in points scored as she tallied 24 points in SAU's last appearance with OKB on the road in November.
  • Brinkley, Djedjemel, and Olivia McWilliams each registered 13 points in the game
  • Brinkley added eight rebounds and McWilliams had five rebounds and a team-best six assists
