MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas men's basketball team played one of its most complete games of the year on Thursday night as the Muleriders led wire-to-wire and cruised to an 88-55 win over Harding on Thursday night at the W.T. Watson Center.
RECORDS
Harding Bisons (0-12, 0-7 GAC)
Southern Arkansas Muleriders (6-7, 2-5 GAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mulerider senior sharpshooter Keeton Tennison got into a rhythm early in the game as he drilled two of his four three-pointers within the first minute and a half of the game to give SAU a quick 6-0 lead.
- The Bisons scored their first points of the game at the 17:16 mark to make it a four-point game, but the Muleriders quickly went on a 10-3 over the next 2:09 of the game to take their first double-digit lead. Harding quickly pulled back to within single digits and trailed by eight points at the 11:01 mark.
- Over the next 9:26 of the game, however, the Muleriders took complete control as they ripped off a 23-3 run. Closing out that remarkable run was a #SCTop10 ally-oop dunk that was finished off by true freshman DeVante Brooks. On the front end of the highlight play was Tennison as he placed the ball perfectly to Brooks from half court.
- The Muleriders would go onto take a 26-point lead with them into the locker room, 44-18.
- Coming out of the break though, Harding engineered its best run of the game as the Bisons scored the first seven points of the half to cut their deficit to 19 points, 44-25, at the 19:14 mark. A layup by Charlie Thomas moments later snapped the run and put the Muleriders back ahead by over 20 points.
- That would be as close as the Bisons would come as SAU continued to build upon that lead, growing it out as large as a 34-point advantage, 83-49, with 5:34 left on the clock. The Muleriders eventually ended the game with a 33-point margin of victory, 88-55.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The win for the Muleriders, coupled with the Lady Muleriders victory of Harding earlier in the evening was the first basketball sweep for SAU against the Bisons since January 14, 2010. Both of those games were also at home with the men winning 77-59 and the women winning 59-58.
- Four players for the Muleriders scored in double figures with Draylan Perkins leading the way with a game-high 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Of that, five of Perkins' makes came from downtown. The 19-point effort was also a season-best for Perkins, topping his previous high of 18 points (done three times).
- Other double-figure scorers were Keeton Tennison with 16 points, Wesley Nosakhare with 14 and Trey Davis with 10. Both Nosakhare and Davis' efforts came off the bench and each only missed one field goal as Nosakhare was 6-of-7 from the floor and Davis was 4-of-5, respectively.
- As a team, the Muleriders had their best shooting performance against a DII opponent as they were a clean .500 overall, going 31-of-62. Among that was a season-best 54% success rate from long range as the Muleriders cashed in on 13-of-24 three-pointers.
