MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Lady Muleriders rallied back from a two set deficit to Harding University on Thursday, but came up short in the fourth set eventually suffering the 1-3 match loss (22-25, 18-25, 25-19, 20-25).
Sophomore setter
Alexa Bass continued her hot streak on the court as she recorded her fifth-straight double-double in Thursday night's loss with 40 assists and 17 digs.
Alexia Southern had 12 kills followed by
Lauren Smith and
Seven Powers who each had nine.
With Harding in the lead for the majority of the first set, SAU would tie the game at 18-all courtesy of an
Alexa Bass kill. The Lady Bison reclaimed the lead on the next two serves before SAU made a 4-0 run consisting of three services aces to take the 22-20 advantage. Harding issued a pair of kills that tied the set at 22-all and carried that momentum to eventually take the first two sets from SAU, 25-22 and 25-18.
In the third set the Lady Muleriders jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage before the Lady Bison initiated a 6-3 lead that fell in their favor. With the assistance of seven errors from Harding, SAU took a 15-12 lead that quickly prompted a late Lady Mulerider rally. During that rally, seven kills and three Harding attack errors gave SAU the win in the third set with a final score of 25-19.
The final set of the night saw a .407 attack clip from the Lady Bison that allowed them to maintain a clear scoring advantage over SAU to secure the match win, 25-20.
