HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Muleriders jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as Jacob Richardson doubled in the top of the first inning to left-centerfield, scoring Blake Hall, who led off the game with a single up the middle.
- That 1-0 advantage held until the Choctaws plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead.
- SAU answered back in the next half inning and knotted the game at 2-all as Cortland McPherson singled into centerfield to score Richardson.
- In the top of the eighth, Richardson scored once more, this time on a passed ball, as SAU regained a one-run lead, 3-2.
- After being retired in order in the eighth, the Choctaws had the first two batters reach in the bottom of the ninth off of SAU closer Makenzy Larsen. The first batter reached on an infield single and the second reached on a fielding error on a sacrifice bunt attempt.
- A successful sacrifice bunt ensued and moved both runners into scoring position with one out. A high-chopping infield single followed in the next at-bat and plated the tying run for Mississippi College.
- After an intentional walk loaded the bases, Larsen worked out of the inning as he got a strikeout and a harmless flyout to right field to send the game into extra innings.
- In extras, neither team scored until the bottom of the 12th when the Choctaws pushed across the winning run on a bases loaded single.
ON THE MOUND
- Hunter Vasquez got the start for the Muleriders and pitched 3.2 innings before giving way to the first of three relievers on the afternoon.
- Eric Schildt was the first out of the 'pen and he worked 4.1 innings with three strikeouts, taking the game into the ninth.
- Makenzy Larsen had the ninth inning and a one-run lead, but the Choctaws pushed across a run to tie it and force extras.
- Pake Montgomery was next and pitched 2.0 innings, but suffered the loss as he was responsible for the winning run that crossed the plate in the 12th.
AT THE PLATE
- The Muleriders totaled nine hits in the game with three going for extra bases.
- Blake Hall and Jacob Richardson had multiple hits in the game as Hall went 2-for-6 and Richardson 3-for-4.
- Richardson also had one of SAU's two RBIs in the game while scoring twice himself.
