MAGNOLIA, Ark. – No. 4 Southern Arkansas trailed by five runs heading into the home-half of the sixth inning and managed to scratch just two runs to cut its deficit to 7-4 as Arkansas Tech would subdue that rally and one in SAU's final at bat in the ninth to claim an 8-4 victory in a non-conference affair inside Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • George Eubanks received the first start of his career on Tuesday afternoon and worked around runners on first and second in both the first and second innings, before Tech used an RBI-groundout in the third inning to plate the game's first run.
  • Southern Arkansas would answer the Wonder Boys in the next half inning as Blake Hall singled with two outs, before scoring on a throwing error in a fielder's choice situation that would have ended the inning.
  • In the top of fourth inning, ATU's Cody Wescott led-off with a solo home run that just cleared the wall down the left field line to put the Wonder Boys back in front, 2-1. Tech wasn't done scoring in the frame as Marcus Wilson doubled home a run and scored himself after a two-base throwing error on the play to give Arkansas Tech a 4-1 advantage.
  • The Muleriders plated a single run in the fifth as Michael Page scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Jake Tisevich to cut the ATU lead to 4-2.
  • The Wonder Boys would cushion its lead with three runs on three hits in the top of the sixth inning to lead 7-2.
  • Southern Arkansas would again answer ATU in the next half-inning as the Muleriders plated a pair of runs on three hits in response, but stranded two runners in the frame.
  • Tech's final run came on a lead-off home run by Mark Vaughan to start the ninth inning and sent the Muleriders to their final at bat trailing by four runs.
  • With two outs, Southern Arkansas loaded the bases courtesy of a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch, before inducing a 5-4 fielder's choice to take the non-league tilt, 8-4.

ON THE MOUND
  • Eubanks tossed 4.0 innings and allowed seven hits and three earned runs, while striking out three.
  • Pake Montgomery entered in relief of Eubanks in the fifth and surrendered three earned runs in an inning of work.
  • Jacob Stroder quieted the Wonder Boy bats for three innings as he gave up just one hit and a walk against seven batters faced.
  • Makenzy Larsen worked the ninth inning for Southern Arkansas; allowing one hit and one earned run.

AT THE PLATE
  • Hall had two hits to lead the Muleriders. The redshirt freshman also walked twice and scored a run.
  • Six additional Muleriders recorded a hit with Cortland McPherson, James Trevanion, and Cory Gallegos' all collecting doubles.
  • Page scored a run as did McPherson and Gallegos.
