Four Lady Muleriders score in double figures as SAU edges Oklahoma Baptist, 74-71, in the season finale

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Four Lady Muleriders scored in double figures and Southern Arkansas manufactured a big second quarter offensively as they edged Oklahoma Baptist in the regular season finale for both schools on Saturday afternoon in a Great American Conference affair inside the Noble Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lady Muleriders led 16-13 after a first quarter that featured two tied scores and six lead changes. With 1:31 remaining in a back and forth opening quarter till that point, Anna Djedjemel knocked down a mid-range jumper to put the Lady Muleriders on top 14-13 and they would not trail for the remainder of the contest.
  • The aforementioned big second quarter offensively saw Southern Arkansas push their lead to 16 with a lead of 44-28 at the intermission. SAU outscored Oklahoma Baptist 28-15 in the quarter. Seven Lady Muleriders got into the scoring act in the quarter led by seven points each from Makaila Jordan and Aaliyah Holmes.
  • The Lady Bison surged in the second half outscoring Southern Arkansas, 43-30. The largest lead of the game for the Lady Muleriders came in the third quarter with 8:39 left as SAU had a 17-point advantage, 47-30.
  • With 2:53 to play in the game, Oklahoma Baptist methodically cut their deficit to a bucket at 69-67, but a minute and a half later, Kimberly Crown scored inside to push the SAU lead back to four.
  • OKB's Tasha Edge converted a pair of free throw attempts with seventy seconds remaining to again bring the Lady Bison to within a bucket of the lead, but it was a pair of free throws from Jordan and a single free throw by Jasmyn Eckerman in the game's final twenty-five seconds that preserved the victory for the Lady Muleriders.
 
FOR SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
  • A pair of freshmen paced Southern Arkansas in scoring as Crown delivered 18 points, while finishing a rebound shy of a double-double with one block and a steal. Holmes followed with 17 points in a team-high 34 minutes.
  • Eckerman followed with 11 points, four rebounds and two steals.
  • Jordan scored ten points in her final collegiate game adding three rebounds, three assists and a steal.
  • Djedjemel scored five points and collected five rebounds, three assists and a team-high three steals.
  • Six players recorded a steal as the Lady Muleriders tied a game-high this season with 12 steals.
 
FOR THE OPPOSITION
  • Tasha Edge led three players in double figures for the Lady Bison with 21 points and 13 rebounds in a double-double effort.
  • Cameerah Graves followed with a dozen points and added five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
  • Autumn Avina collected ten points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal. Katy Custer added nine rebounds.
 
OF NOTE
  • The win snaps a nine-game losing streak for Southern Arkansas.
  • The Lady Muleriders outscored OKB in the paint (34-28) and in points off of turnovers (23-18), while the Lady Bison won the battle for second chance points (19-10), including a 12-3 margin in the second half.
  • SAU committed just 15 turnovers, while Oklahoma Baptist committed 21 turnovers. The Lady Bison outrebounded Southern Arkansas, 40-32, including 19-10 on the offensive glass.
  • SAU's 74 points scored on Saturday afternoon are the second-most in a single-game this season as were its 23 successful free throw attempts (23-of-30 | 76.7%).
  • Southern Arkansas shot 45.3% (24-of-53) in the game and OKB took 11 more attempts as they shot 37.5% (24-of-64) from the floor including an 18.2% mark from three-point range (6-of-33). OKB missed just two free throws; posting a 89.5% (17-of-19) mark from the charity stripe.
