HOW IT HAPPENED
- After no score through an inning and a half, the Muleriders lit the scoreboard for four runs in the second inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead. In that inning, James Trevanion led off with a double down the left field line and during the next at-bat, he swiped third base.
- Cortland McPherson then traded places with Trevanion at third with a RBI triple down the right field line. A batter later, McPherson scored as Josey Langston pulled a ball to the right side of the infield. Two batters after that, Blake Hall drilled his first career homerun out to left-centerfield plating the final two runs in the inning.
- That 4-0 score held until the Muleriders added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. In that inning, Jacob Richardson had a RBI single up the middle and Langston a RBI double down the left field line.
- The bottom of the sixth was when the Muleriders ripped the game completely open, scoring seven runs to make it 13-0. Compiling RBIs that frame were Trevor Rucker, Cory Gallegos, McPherson, Langston and Hall.
- In the top of the seventh, ECU rallied for three runs in the inning to break-up the shutout bid by SAU starter Connor Wells, but Hunter Vasquez put the final nail in the game as he came on in relief of Wells and stranded a pair of runners to end it.
ON THE MOUND
- Connor Wells got the start for the Muleriders and nearly pitched a complete game, going 6.2 of the seven-inning contest. In the start, Wells was downright dominant at times, striking out a season-high 10 batters.
- Wells also flirted with a shutout, but ECU rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to break that up and ultimately chase him from the start.
- Hunter Vasquez came on in relief of Wells and needed just one pitch to work out of the seventh and secure a Mulerider victory.
AT THE PLATE
- As a team, the Muleriders racked up 11 hits and eight of the nine starters had at least one hit in the game.
- Redshirt freshman Blake Hall fell a triple shy of the cycle as he went 3-for-4 in the game with four RBIs from the leadoff spot in the order. Two of Hall's RBIs came on his first-career homerun that he hammered out to left-centerfield.
- Mark Fontenot was the other Mulerider with multiple hits as he went 2-for-2. Fontenot also drew three walks in the game.
- Four Muleriders scored multiple runs in the game with Hall, Fontenot, Jacob Richardson, and James Trevanion all scoring twice.
