HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first Great American Conference game for both Southern Arkansas and Southeastern Oklahoma went scoreless over the first two innings of play before SAU's Cory Gallegos singled through the right side to score Trevor Rucker. Previously in the inning, Rucker led off and reached on a throwing error by the Savage Storm third baseman. During the next at-bat, Rucker swiped second base to set the table for Gallegos' RBI single
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Southeastern manufactured their first run of the game off of SAU starter Connor Wells as a leadoff hit-by-pitch moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
  • That score would hold until the seventh inning when Rucker led off with a single. After a flyout in the ensuing at-bat, Rucker then stole his third base of the game, getting into scoring position at second base. Gallegos then drew a full count walk to bring Mark Fontenot to the plate. After taking a strike, Fontenot deposited the next offering over the fence in right-centerfield for his second round-tripper of the season, giving SAU a 4-1 lead.
  • SAU reliever, Jacob Stroder, who came on in the sixth with a perfect inning that frame, worked around a two-out single to keep the Savage Storm off the board.
  • In the top of the eighth, SAU added a run of insurance to go up 5-1 as redshirt freshman Blake Hall scalded a triple to left-centerfield to score Michael Page, who reached in the at-bat prior on a hit-by-pitch.
  • In the bottom of the frame, Southeastern threatened early in the inning as the first two men reached on a single and a hit-by-pitch. A flyout to left field advanced the runner at second to third base to five the Savage Storm runners on the corners with one out. Stroder then induced an inning-ending double that was triggered by Jacob Richardson at third base and turned by Josey Langston at second.
  • A scoreless top of the ninth sent the Savage Storm to the plate in the bottom half for their final at-bats. Southeastern's leadoff man reached on a single to left-centerfield and following a strikeout looking and a fielding error, the Savage Storm once more had runners on the corners with one out.
  • As he did in the eighth, however, Stroder induced a double-play ball, this one going 6-4-3, to end the game

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Muleriders had 12 hits as a team and every player in the lineup had at least one knock. Mark Fontenot, Josey Langston, and Trevor Rucker each had two hits as well.
  • Fontenot racked up three RBIs (all on the homerun in the seventh). It is the second-straight game that he has had multiple RBIs and is now tied for the team lead with seven.
  • Rucker was 4-for-4 in stolen bases in the game. Those four steals are a single-game best for the senior and ties a program record. The last Mulerider to steal four bases in a game was Jason Dahl against Ouachita in 2012.
