Lady Muleriders conclude play at North Texas Softball Bash with pair of run-rule wins after handling Texas Permian Basin and Texas A&M-Kingsville in a split doubleheader on Sunday

Magnolia, Ark. | The Southern Arkansas softball team concluded the North Texas Softball bash on Sunday with an overall strong pitching and offensive performance resulting in a pair of run-rule wins over Texas-Permian Basin, 13-5 and Texas A&M Kingsville, 9-1.
 
                    
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 1 against Texas-Permian Basin
  •  The Lady Mulerider offense exploded in the first inning of game one after scoring six runs. The first of SAU's runs in that inning came on an RBI single down the right-field line by Jill Roye that scored Brooke Goad. A pair of RBI singles off the bats of Marina Duran and Tyler Casada plated three more Lady Muleriders before Faith Otts banged a 2-RBI double to center field to close out the first inning with a 6-0 advantage over the Falcons.
  • The Falcons cut their deficit in half in the next inning coming as close as three runs shy of SAU on a homerun and an error.
  • In the bottom of the second, Roye cranked an opposite field 2-run homer to left field that scored Maddie Dow who reached base on a hit by pitch. Casada followed her up with a long ball to center field that brought the score to 10-3 SAU.  
  • SAU scored their last three runs in the third and fourth inning to end the game in run-rule fashion. In the third, Rachel Miller lead-off with a single before Goad doubled to left-centerfield plating Miller. Shortly after, Goad scored on a ball put in play by Roye.
  • Megan Godoyo's solo jack to left field put the run-rule in effect to clinch SAU's 13-3 victory over the Falcons.
 
FOR SAU
  •  SAU combined for 13 runs on nine hits in five innings.
  • Roye and Casada led the offense with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate with four RBI's a piece on two hits including a pair of homeruns.
  • Otts registered a pair of RBI's on one hit.
  • Goad, Duran, and Godoyo each collected an RBI.
  • Starting pitcher, Kaylee Garner received the win in the circle for SAU giving up just three runs on five hits in four innings pitched with five strikeouts.
 
FOR THE OPPOSITION
  • The Falcons combined for three runs on five hits.
  • Daisy Aguilar led the offense with a pair of RBI's on one hit.

 
 HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 2 against Texas A&M-Kingsville
  • SAU was scoreless until the third inning when a bases loaded walk to Duran put the Lady Muleriders on the board.
  • In the fourth, Roye collected her second homerun on the day after she tanked a grand slam into right field that established a comfortable 7-0 lead for SAU.
  • The Javelina's scored their only run of the game on a fielding error in the top of the fifth inning.
  • SAU put two runners on base in the bottom of the fifth courtesy of a hit by pitch to Casada and a single up the middle off the bat of Otts. Subsequently, Dow came to the plate and ended the game with a walk-off 2-RBI single through the left side resulting in a 9-1 run-rule win over A&M-Kingsville.
 
FOR SAU
  • Southern Arkansas combined for nine runs on six hits against the Javelinas.
  • Roye led the offense with four RBI's on a grand slam, along with one run scored.
  • Dow followed her with three RBI's on one hit and one run scored.
  • Duran registered an RBI on one hit.
  • Victoria Taylor received the win in the circle with seven strikeouts while allowing only one run on two hits in five innings pitched.
 
FOR THE OPPOSITION
  • Haley Boyett and Lindsey Angelico led the offense with a hit a piece.
  • Pitching changed hands three times for the Javelinas with Randa Hatter suffereing the loss after allowing four runs on two hits in three innings pitched.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Lady Muleriders return to action next weekend in Bentonville at the UAM 8-State Classic with a pair of games on Friday against Northwest Missouri State University and University of Central Missouri. The first pitch is scheduled for 9 am.
