Muleriders move past Baptist Bible College, 119-44

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – It was a total team effort by the Southern Arkansas Mulerider Basketball team on Monday night inside the W.T. Watson Center as six players scored in double figures and 11 registered a dozen or more minutes to propel SAU past Baptist Bible College 119-44 in nonconference action. The win is the second straight for Southern Arkansas at home this season and the Muleriders will play their next three contests in Magnolia.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Muleriders led 49-19 after the first twenty minutes of play behind ten points from Keeton Tennison and six points each from CJ Elkins and Draylan Perkins.
  • Southern Arkansas shot 53.8% from the floor in the first half and drained five threes with Tennison and Perkins combining for four trifectas.
  • The first four shots of the game were from range and all found the bottom of the cylinder as BBC answered three-pointers from Perkins and Tennison to tie the game at six three minutes into action.
  • Wesley Nosakhare scored inside to break the tie and the Muleriders would maintain its lead for the duration of the contest.
  • The lead grew to 41 points five minutes into the second half and would end in a 75-point difference.
  • Highlighting the second half for Southern Arkansas was a pair of true freshmen in Andrew Holloway and Trey Davis who combined for 20 points including 14 from Holloway on 6-of-8 shooting. Davis added six points to go along with four first half points and each player produced a pair of assists to go along with two steals, while Davis claimed four rebounds as well.
  • The Patriots capped the contest with eight three-pointers including six from Seth Thompson who finished with a team-high 18 points in a team-leading 35 minutes of action.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Tennison and Elkins led the way with 15 points apiece, while Perkins and Holloway added 14 points. Aaron Lucas followed with a dozen points and Davis contributed with ten.
  • Nosakhare grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and Collins and Brooks followed with seven each.
  • The Muleriders dished out 19 assists with Collins and Davis pushing three each and Tennison, Holloway, and Lukas Hart picking up a pair apiece.
  • Southern Arkansas picked up 17 steals on the defensive end led by Davis' three while four players claimed two steals as the Muleriders employed a full court press with a midcourt trap at different stages throughout the second half.
  • The Muleriders scored 38 points off of turnovers and offensively committed just 13 turnovers, while the defense allowed the Patriots just eight attempts from the charity stripe.
  • Sixty-six of Southern Arkansas' points came in the paint, twenty points came in second-chance opportunities and 16 points were produced on fast breaks.
  • SAU's 119 points are the most for the program since dropping 118 points in a win against Champion Baptist on January 28, 2014. Monday's high-scoring display came courtesy of an overall shooting clip of 62.0% (49-of-79) and a 48.1% mark from three-point range.
  • The last time SAU scored 119 points in a game was against Arkansas Baptist in February of 2001. The 75-point margin is the highest since a 61-point margin (101-40) against Central Baptist on November 15 in the 2010-11 season.
