Lady Muleriders fall on the road to #10 Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Lady Mulerider Volleyball team fell on the road in straight sets (9-25, 15-25, 21-25) to No. 10-ranked Arkansas Tech in a league matchup on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

A combination of Arkansas Tech's serving game and attack percentage kept the Lady Muleriders on its heels throughout the match as the No. 10-ranked Golden Suns tallied nine service aces and produced an attack clip of .344 with 46 total kills. Defensively, ATU held the Lady Muleriders to a .048 hitting percentage in the match as SAU totaled 23 kills.

A 9-3 spurt early in the first frame provided the momentum for the Golden Suns as its offense commanded a .571 attack clip while holding SAU to just six additional points throughout the remainder of the opening set.

ATU jumped out to another early advantage with a 6-0 run to start off the second set. A .310 attack clip by the Golden Suns aided by eight SAU errors in the frame saw a 25-15 final decision in Tech's favor.

Despite dropping the first two sets, the Lady Muleriders quickly readjusted and captured the first lead in the third set, 2-0. ATU tallied the next three points to take the lead, 3-2, before Lauren Smith tied the set at 3-all on a kill. In the next four serves, ATU led by a point after the Lady Muleriders tied the score on three separate occasions.

A 5-all tie in the frame then saw SAU muster a 4-1 run that yielded a 9-6 advantage over Tech. Up until a 14-12 score, the Golden Suns came within a single point of SAU four separate times in that sequence before eventually taking the lead, 16-14. SAU tied the score three more times in the set and reclaimed the lead once in that sequence at 18-17, but fell short to the Golden Sun's six kills and lone service ace that prompted an ultimate decision of 25-21, ATU.
