Setting the Scene: Muleriders to be Featured on ESPN3
For the second time since 2013, the Southern Arkansas football team will play on a national stage as this week's game at Henderson State will be streamed live on ESPN3 as part of the 2017 NCAA Division II Football Showcase. Back in 2013, SAU had their first national spotlight game at home against Harding as the Muleriders and Bisons played on CBS Sports Network as part of that year's DII Game of the Week.

SAU's game with Henderson State will be the 79th meeting all-time with Henderson holding a 44-33-1 advantage in the all-time record. After snapping an overall nine-game losing streak to the Reddies last year, the Muleriders will be looking to end a fourgame winless streak at Henderson State that dates back to 2006, while also looking to avenge a heart-breaking loss at the final horn in their last visit to Carpenter-Haygood Stadium in 2015.

Aside from the national stage this week, there is a ton on the line for the Muleriders as well after their big 49-19 win over then #25-ranked Southeastern Oklahoma last week propelled SAU to a four-way tie for first-place in the GAC with three weeks to go
in the regular season.

About Henderson State
SCHEDULE

The Henderson State football team enters play this weekend with a 4-4 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the Great American Conference. The Reddies' record features an oddity in that their four wins have all come on the road, while their four defeats have come at home. The 4-0 record on the road this season extends their Division II record for consecutive road wins, now standing at an impressive 30 games. The Reddies have not lost in a true road game since 2011, but in the midst of that streak, the
Reddies have lost a game away from home, albeit a neutral site contest against Southern Arkansas last year. In that game, SAU defeated the Reddies, 50-24 in the Murphy USA Classic in El Dorado.

THE COACH
The Reddies are coached by Scott Maxfield, who is in his 13th season at Henderson and his 17th overall as a collegiate head coach. In his time at Henderson, Maxfield has amassed an impressive 92-47 overall record with over half of those wins coming over the last six years. In that recent stretch, Maxfield has turned the Reddies in to a perennial national power going 55-13 with a trio of GAC Championships as well as three trips to the NCAA Playoffs in 2012, 2013, and 2015. Overall, Maxfield is 121-58 in his career as a college head coach.

SCOUTING THE OFFENSE
Offensively, the Reddies are averaging 21.6 points per game and 384.8 yards of total offense per game as well with 259.9 of the yards coming through the air and the remaining 124.9 yards being gained on the ground. Their points per game average ranks ninth in the GAC andtheir total offense is eighth. Their passing offense ranks third in the league while their rushing offense is 10th.

The Reddies have used two different starting quarterbacks this season with Evan Lassiter and Andrew Black both getting the call at various times. Lassiter has seen the most action. Lassiter has thrown for 1,474 yards and six touchdowns. Black has thrown for 559 yards and three TDs. The Reddies' leading pass catcher is Ben Johnson with 29 receptions for 365 yards. He has also caught three TDs to lead the team.

On the ground, the Reddies are led by Andrew Black. Black has carried the ball 70 times 282 yards and eight touchdowns.

SCOUTING THE DEFENSE
Defensively, the Reddies are allowing 24.4 points per game and 349.5 yards of total offense per game. Their points per game given up ranks sixth in the GAC while their total offense allowed ranks third. On the ground, the Reddies are allowing just 160.8 yards per game which ranks fourth inthe GAC, while their 188.8 yards per game given up through the air ranks second.

This season, the Reddies' defense has forced 11 turnovers with 10 of those being interceptions and one being a fumble recoveries.

THE SERIES
This will be the 79th meeting all-time between the Muleriders and the Reddies with Henderson holding a 44-33-1 lead in the overall series record. Since 2000, HSU is 10-6 against SAU. Last year, the Muleriders snapped a nine-game losing streak
against the Reddies with a 50-24 win in El Dorado at the Murphy USA Classic.
