Lady Muleriders host Arkansas-Monticello in Great American Conference match-up

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas Lady Mulerider Volleyball team returns to action inside the W.T. Watson Athletic Center on Tuesday, September 27, for a 7 p.m. first-serve with Arkansas-Monticello. Southern Arkansas looks to even up their league record at 2-2 after claiming a five-set victory over Henderson State last Thursday in the 2016 home-opener.
 
SOUTHERN ARKANSAS (4-10, 1-2 GAC)
 
  • Four players have registered 100 or more kills for Lady Muleriders led by junior Alexia Southern's 126 kills, while senior Serena LeDuff (119 kills) owns a team-leading 2.43 kills per set. Junior Alli O'Banion (121 kills) paces the club with an attack percentage of .184 for players with at least 300 total attacks.
  • Southern Arkansas has relied on the services of two setters so far this season: freshman Katy Cooper and junior Savannah Pillow. Cooper (292 assists) has played in 34 sets for the Lady Muleriders and leads the team with the league's sixth-best assists per set rate at 8.59. Pillow (189 assists) is coming off her first career double-double in which she logged her second 40-plus assist match of the season, while adding 19 digs.
  • Senior Paige Mays is currently in the top-ten in a pair of Great American Conference statistical categories as she is fourth in service aces per set (0.37) and seventh in digs per set (4.48). Classmate Serena LeDuff is eighth in the league in service aces per set with 0.33.
  • With a career-high seven blocks against Henderson State, senior Kaitlyn Reiner paces Southern Arkansas in the category with 31.0 total blocks at a team-best 0.60 per set.
  • Through 14 games, SAU is attacking at .144, while opponents are hitting at an even .200.
  • As a team, the Lady Muleriders are fifth in the league in digs per set (16.31) and ninth in three GAC categories: assists per set (10.33), kills per set (11.04), and service aces per set (1.21).
 
 
SCOUTING THE BLOSSOMS (2-11, 0-3 GAC)
 
  • UAM attacks at a rate of .184; the fifth-best mark in the conference, but allows opponents to hit at the second-highest clip of .242.
  • As a team, Arkansas-Monticello is in the top eight in four statistical categories: digs per set (4th | 16.60), blocks per set (6th | 1.52), assists per set (7th | 10.98), and kills per set (8th | 11.40).
  • Carolina Gasparini ranks in the top-6 in three individual categories in the GAC: service aces per set (2nd | 0.39), points per set (5th | 3.62), and kills per set (6th | 3.09).
  • Kendall Vondra assists UAM hitters at the league's eighth-best rate of 8.22, while Kya Standford averages one block per set; the third-highest mark in the conference.
 
OF NOTE
 
  • The Lady Muleriders have won eight matches in a row over UAM and are 9-1 against the Blossoms since the two programs became charter members of the Great American Conference in 2011.
  • Tonight is Sexual Assault Awareness night, sponsored by SAU Title IX Committee. Fans are encouraged to join Lady Mulerider Volleyball in support by wearing teal at the match.
  • With 16 games remaining on the regular season schedule, SAU will play at home in Magnolia in 11 of those games, while 13 of the 16 games left are league matchups.
