Lady Muleriders fall to Arkansas-Monticello in five sets

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas Lady Mulerider volleyball team dropped a five-set Great American Conference match (25-13, 25-19, 19-25, 21-25, 7-15) to rival Arkansas-Monticello on Tuesday evening inside the W.T. Watson Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • Southern Arkansas jumped out front with wins in the first two sets, before UAM bounced back to win the final three frames.
  • The Lady Muleriders attacked at an average of .372 through the first two sets collecting 28 kills, while committing just three errors in 68 total attacks. But in the final three sets, SAU swung at an average clip of just .113.
  • SAU outhit UAM .205 to .198, but the Blossoms produced 11 more total attacks.
 
FOR SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
 
  • Four Lady Muleriders recorded 10 or more kills led by Serena LeDuff's 15. Alexia Southern added 13 for Southern Arkansas, while Kaitlyn Reiner and Alli O'Banion chipped in with 11 and 10 respectively.
  • Southern's 13 kills came on a team-high .300 attack percentage.
  • Savannah Pillow logged her second-consecutive 40-plus assist game with a career-high 47 and added a dozen digs for her second career double-double; and second in as many games.
  • O'Banion, Reiner, and Seven Powers each collected three block assists, while LeDuff added a pair.
  • Four players collected double-digit dig totals led by Paige Mays' 24. Hannah Rice produced 20 digs and Riley Marsh added 17 digs; one shy of her career-high.
 
FOR THE OPPOSITION
 
  • Carolina Gasparini logged a double-double with a 13 kill, 13 dig effort in the win. She also added four aces.
  • Shay Mitchell led the Blossoms with 17 kills and Maggie Pyles added a dozen.
  • Kendall Vondra registered a game-high 49 assists and 16 digs in a double-double performance.
  • Four players collected 10 or more digs led by Macy Mitchell's 20. Elizabeth Harshaw added a dozen.
  • Kya Standford produced seven total blocks highlighted by seven block solos, while Aubrey Harrison added four and Pyles chipped in with three.

  • The Lady Muleriders continue Great American Conference play on Thursday, September 29, as they head to Searcy for a 6 p.m. first-serve with Harding. Southern Arkansas defeated the Lady Bisons twice during the 2015 regular season and also in the opening round of the GAC Tournament.
