WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Southern Arkansas Lady Mulerider Volleyball team suffered a setback in their opening match of the Peggy Martin Crossover Challenge on Friday morning in Warrensburg as Newman University of the Heartland Conference defeated SAU in three sets inside the UCM Multipurpose Building.

HOW IT HAPPENED
· A pair of 4-0 runs from Newman kept the Jets distanced from the Lady Muleriders through the first set en route to swinging at a clip of .367.
· A 10-2 run by the Jets after trailing 11-10 in the second set was too much for Southern Arkansas to overcome in the frame.
· In the third set, Newman jumped out to a 15-4 advantage before Southern Arkansas battled back to come within four at 17-13. The Jets used an 8-3 run to close out the match.
· Junior Brittany Lampkin led SAU with nine kills, while classmate Alexia Southern added seven as well as senior Kaitlyn Reiner, who combined with Lampkin to average a .423 attack percentage.
· Freshman Katy Cooper led SAU in assists for the seventh-straight game as she logged her fifth match this season with at least 30 assists.
· Senior Paige Mays led the Lady Muleriders with 14 digs, while senior Brittney Johnson added 11, with freshman Riley Marsh chipping in with seven digs.
FOR THE OPPOSITION
· Hailey Braddy and Jarin Braithwait led the Jets with nine kills apiece.
· The Jets collected five service aces led by Andrea Wheeler's three.
· Brook Conley assisted on a game-high 36 kills, while Anna Burton produced a game-high 13 digs for Newman.
OF NOTE
· Southern Arkansas set season-highs in total attacks in a three-set match with 112 and in total digs in a three-set match with 55.
· Senior Kaitlyn Reiner logged her second-consecutive match with an attack percentage north of .400 and her third this campaign. She has hit .417 in her last two matches, while producing a career-high .478 vs. New Mexico Highlands earlier this month. In those three matches, Reiner's state line is 26-5-47 with an average hit clip of .437.
