DENVER, Colo. – No. 15 Southern Arkansas dropped their opening game of the NCAA DII College World Series 9-0 to No. 3 North Alabama; South Region representatives, on a cold, overcast Tuesday evening at the Regency Athletic Complex on the campus of Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado.
The Lady Muleriders (51-10) will play Charleston (WV) (50-11) at 7:30 p.m. in Wednesday's second of two elimination games. Charleston, Atlantic Region representatives, lost 10-4 to Adelphi, representatives of the East Region, in Tuesday's nightcap.
Southern Arkansas collected three hits and three walks in their World Series opener, while UNA scored nine runs on ten hits in the five-inning affair. Seniors
Taylor Guin and
Chelsea Jordan picked up base hits and sophomore
Brooke Goad produced a double.
In the circle for the Lady Muleriders, senior starter
Kimmy Beasley went 1.1 innings, before junior reliever
Peyton Jenkins finished the final 2.2 innings. North Alabama scored five runs in the first inning, added two runs in the second inning and two more in the fourth inning as they advanced to play Adelphi in Wednesday's second winner's bracket game.
Charleston posted a 29-3 record in the Mountain East Conference and defeated host West Virginia Wesleyan in three games in the Atlantic Region's Super Regional to advance to Denver.
