Buchanan and Germaine homer in 7-4 loss at East Central; Tigers stave off sweep

ADA, Okla. – Southern Arkansas' Justin Buchan and Billy Germaine each homered and Jake Tisevich collected a pair of RBIs in Sunday's series finale at East Central, but SAU ultimately fell to ECU by a score of 7-4 as the Tigers staved off a series sweep.

The homerun for Buchanan came in the top of the eighth and was his second of the series as he parked one in the opening game of the series on Saturday; a 10-3 win for SAU. Germaine's longball on Sunday meanwhile, opened scoring for the game in the second inning and was his fourth of the series as he left the yard three times yesterday.

After Germaine's second-inning homerun which put SAU on top 1-0, East Central struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead. A single run in the third by the Tigers (15-26, 14-16 GAC) in the third made it 3-1, ECU.

In the fourth, the Muleriders (27-17, 17-13 GAC) scored a run on a single up the middle off the bat of Tisevich to make it a one-run game once more at 3-2.

A two-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth, however put the Tigers up by three runs, 5-2.

Buchanan's solo homerun in the eighth brought the Muleriders to within a pair of runs, but ECU doubled up that margin in the bottom of the frame with a two-run homerun.

In the ninth, the Muleriders put together a one-out rally as Michael Page and Tisevich hit consecutive doubles to push across SAU's fourth run of the game. Trevor Rucker drew a walk following Tisevich's RBI double, but a double play in the next at-bat ended the game, giving ECU the 7-4 victory.

The Muleriders will now shift their attention to their final mid-week game of the year as they are set to play host to Henderson State on Tuesday, April 26. First-pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field.
