MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas baseball team had their annual Senior Day spoiled by visiting Southeastern Oklahoma as the Savage Storm defeated the Muleriders by a score of 7-1 on Saturday afternoon at Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field.
In the game, the Savage Storm (24-18, 19-8 GAC) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as they plated a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. An inning later, Southeastern struck for five runs on three hits in the frame to surge ahead 7-0 over the Muleriders (25-16, 15-12 GAC).
After being staked to the sizable lead, Savage Storm starting pitcher Mike Wade shut down the Mulerider offense as he retired 14 batters in a row before
Billy Germaine singled through the left side of the infield with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
In the eighth, SAU loaded the bases with two outs after the Savage Storm starter walked three straight. Wade was then lifted for a reliever, but the bases were left loaded by the Muleriders as a swinging strikeout ended the frame.
The Muleriders loaded the bases once more with one out in the ninth inning and this time the Muleriders pushed across a run on a RBI groundout by
Jake Tisevich. A flyout in the next at-bat, however ended the game with the final of 7-1 in favor of Southeastern Oklahoma.
The Muleriders will now prepare for a non-conference road trip to Arkansas Tech on Tuesday, April 19. First-pitch in Russellville is scheduled for 2 p.m.
