WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Southern Arkansas men's basketball team was stunned in the waning moments of Saturday afternoon's game against Southwestern Oklahoma as SWOSU used a 7-0 run over the final 1:44 of the game to upend SAU by two-points, 71-69, inside the Pioneer Cellular Events Center.
Over the course of the game-ending run by the Bulldogs (13-8, 9-6 GAC) would get all seven points from Martell Collins. The final three of those points came on a trifecta by Collins with just six seconds left on the game clock which gave the Bulldogs their first lead in the game since the 3:47 mark of the first half.
Following the made three-pointer, the Muleriders (11-10, 8-7 GAC) called a time out and had a chance to go the length of the floor to tie or possibly win the game on a three-pointer of their own. SWOSU would not allow a shot attempt by SAU, however, as the Bulldogs' Emeche Wells stripped the ball away for a game-sealing steal.
Statistically, the Muleriders would have three players score in double figures with
De'Sean Dockery leading the way with 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
Deon Andrews and
Alvin Braddock were next in scoring with 10 points each, respectively.
As a team, the Muleriders shot 43% overall from the floor (23-of-54) and 42% from long range (5-of-12). SAU also shot 67% from the free throw line (18-of-27).
The Muleriders will now prepare for a Thursday night road game at Henderson State next week. Scheduled tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
