MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas Lady Mulerider Basketball team will welcome in Arkansas-Monticello on Monday evening for a Great American Conference "Rivalry Monday" showdown inside the W.T. Watson Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Muleriders (14-7, 10-7 GAC) are in the midst of one of the program's best year's as a member of NCAA Division II, having already eclipsed the mark for most conference wins in the school's twenty-year membership in the NCAA. Southern Arkansas welcomes in a Blossoms team (11-10, 8-9 GAC) that suffered a 75-59 setback to the Lady Muleriders on January 18 in Monticello.
With six games remaining on the regular season schedule, SAU will benefit from playing five of those games inside the W.T. Watson Center. The Lady Muleriders currently sit in a tie for fourth-place with Southeastern Oklahoma State in the latest GAC standings, while UAM is currently tied for seventh with East Central.
SAU averages 74.8 points per game, while Arkansas-Monticello scores 67.7 points per outing. Southern Arkansas shoots at the second-best percentage in the league at 44.8%, while the Blossoms shoot just over 41% from the floor. The Lady Muleriders rank second in assists per game (15.6) and steals per game (8.4), while Arkansas-Monticello produces 3.0 blocks per game and owns a 32.6% shooting clip from beyond the arc.
Offensively, Southern Arkansas has been sparked by a trio of players led by
Rosa Bryant who has accounted for sixteen double-doubles on the season, while averaging 19.4 points and 11.4 rebounds per contest. Her 49.3% shooting from the floor is ninth in the GAC, while her 1.9 steals per game ranks fourth in the league.
Shana Holmes scores at a clip of 13.7 points per game, while shooting 47.9%; both top 15 marks in the conference. She averages a team-leading 3.8 assists per game, while collecting 1.3 steals per game.
Tierra Tucker rounds out double-figure scoring averages for the Lady Muleriders with 11.4 points per game. She follows Holmes with 3.7 assists per game and Bryant with 1.8 steals per game.
For Arkansas-Monticello, they are led by the league's leading scorer in Jordan Goforth who averages 21.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Goforth is an 85% free throw shooter and owns the conference's best three-point percentage at 44.6%. She also averages 3.9 assists and a team-leading 1.7 steals per game. Nikki Mullin averages 11.0 points for the Blossoms and leads the team in assists at 4.0 per game, while adding 1.5 steals. Mullin leads the GAC in minutes played with 37.4.
