LADY MULERIDER NEWS AND NOTES
Southern Arkansas enters play with a 2-5 overall record are a coming off of a 63-55 road win at Philander Smith last Thursday. Statistically, SAU scores at an average of 59.7 points per game and surrenders 65.3 points per game on average.
Newcomers have played a huge role for the Lady Muleriders this season as two new faces are leading the team in scoring. Freshman forward
Kimberly Crown averages a team-best 11.3 points per game and junior guard
Anna Djedjemel follows with 8.1 points per game while also leading the team with 3.9 assists per game and in minutes at 33.1. Freshman forward
Erin Brinkley is shooting a team-high 59% from the floor.
Defensively, Crown averages a team-leading 7.4 boards per game. Djedjemel paces SAU with 1.4 steals per game, while Brinkley has collected six blocks.
COACH
The Lady Muleriders are coached by
Julio Pacheco, who is in his second season at Southern Arkansas. Pacheco guided the Lady Muleriders to a NCAA DII program record 19 wins a season ago and their first postseason victory in nine years. For his efforts, Pacheco was named Women's Basketball Coach of the Year in the Great American Conference.
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN STATE
Northeastern State enters play with a 4-6 overall record and are currently on a two-game winning streak with home wins over Bacone College and Northwest Missouri.
As a team, the RiverHawks are averaging 67.7 points per game offensively, while allowing 69.4 points on defense for a -1.7 scoring margin. From the field, the RiverHawks are shooting 42% overall, which includes a 36% success rate from long range.
The RiverHawks have three players scoring in double figures led by Rylie Torrey at 18.4 points per game. Mary Jane Buschman leads Northeastern in rebounding at 6.6 boards a contest.
COACH
The RiverHawks are coached by Randy Gipson, who is in his 18th season as head coach at Northeastern State. Entering this season, Gipson has amassed a 309-184 record. Six times, Gipson's RiverHawks have won 20 or more games and he has led them to seven NCAA Tournament appearances as well.
