Lady Muleriders drop exhibition with Dallas Diesel, 77-50

Read drops 19 in Lady Mulerider debut

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas Women's Basketball opened their season with an exhibition loss to Dallas Diesel, 77-50, on Saturday afternoon inside the W.T. Watson Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • Each team scored a bucket through the first three and a half minutes to start the game. A three-pointer from junior guard Anna Djedjemel gave the Lady Muleriders their only lead of the ballgame at 7-6, before Dallas used a 9-0 run spanning three minutes that led to a 19-10 advantage after the first ten minutes of play.
  • Dallas kept the momentum in the second quarter as their lead blossomed to 26 at the break, 40-14, behind a shooting percentage of 43.2%, while taking advantage of 14 Lady Mulerider turnovers through the first two quarters.
  • After the intermission, Southern Arkansas put together a pair of solid quarters as the Lady Muleriders jumped out on a 13-4 run to open the third quarter on seven points from sophomore guard Jaida Harden and six points from junior forward Demi Read as SAU outscored Dallas 21-14 in the third quarter.
  • Dallas led by 21 entering the fourth quarter before taking a 77-50 win in the exhibition.
  • Southern Arkansas scored 30 points in the paint and turned 20 Diesel turnovers into 23 points. The Lady Muleriders were 10-of-13 (76.9%) from the charity stripe.
 
FOR SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
 
  • Read dropped 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting and added four rebounds and a pair of assists in 27 minutes of action to lead the Lady Muleriders.
  • Harden followed with nine points and freshman Kimberly Crown added eight.
  • Sophomore Jasmyn Eckerman led SAU with seven rebounds, while senior Makaila Jordan added six.
  • Four players recorded a pair of steals: Djedjemel, Harden, senior guard Caroline Ficher and sophomore forward Alyssa Hamilton. SAU registered 13 steals on the afternoon.
 
FOR THE OPPOSITION
 
  • Four players scored in double figures for Dallas led by Chantoya Hawkins' 19 points on 8-of-24 shooting. Jill Duffey added fifteen points and Layla Schwarz-McCray followed with 13 points. Darice Martim rounded out the double-figure scoring production with ten points.
  • Jasmine Johnson led Dallas with nine rebounds and Martim recorded a game-high three blocks.
  • Ramses Lonlack registered a game-high nine assists.
