Lady Muleriders host Williams Baptist in non-conference action

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas Lady Mulerider Volleyball team is set to begin a four-game home stand that will run through next Tuesday as they welcome in Williams Baptist College for a 6 p.m. non-conference tilt tonight inside the W.T. Watson Center. The Lady Muleriders are coming off a three-set loss to Harding in Searcy. WBC enters Monday's contest having dropped a straight-set road match to William Woods University in their most recent action.

SOUTHERN ARKANSAS (4-12)

  • Four players have recorded 115 or more kills for the Lady Muleriders led by senior Serena LeDuff's 134 kill, who also owns a team-leading 2.54 kills per set. Classmate Kaitlyn Reiner (118 kills) paces the club with an attack percentage of .207 for players with at least 300 total attacks.
  • Junior Savannah Pillow (245 assists – 8.45 per set) has logged double-doubles in two of SAU's last three games; the first such statistic in her career. Freshman Katy Cooper led the team in assists at Harding with 17 and paces the club with 309 assists at a rate of 8.58 per set: the fifth-best mark in the GAC.
  • Senior Paige Mays is seventh in the league in digs per set at 4.48. Mays has recorded 10 or more digs in 15 of 16 games this season and has collected 20 or more digs five times.
  • Senior Kaitlyn Reiner paces Southern Arkansas in total blocks with 36.0 at a team-best 0.60 per set, while O'Banion has collected 31.0 total blocks at 0.52 per set.
  • Through 15 games, SAU is attacking at .144, while opponents are hitting at .201.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES (6-8)

  • The Eagles attack at a percentage of .176, led by Rachel Pirtle's clip of .224.
  • Madison Laubach leads the team in kills (207) and kills per set (2.33).
  • Jordan Harvey and Taylor Barton set the offense as both players have at least 180 kills led by Harvey's 245. Barton has recorded 189 assists this season.
  • Barton has also registered 14 service aces, two behind Mallory Wright's 16.
  • Jessica Baugh leads the Eagles in digs with 226, while three other players have recorded 60 or more digs this season.

OF NOTE

  • WBC enters tonight's matchup in the midst of an eight-game road swing that has so far seen the club drop a pair of three-set matches to top-15 NAIA teams.
  • The Eagles are 0-1 against the Great American Conference this season having lost a three-set match to Ouachita Baptist earlier in the season. However, WBC has four more dates scheduled with GAC opponents beginning tonight at SAU, while also visiting Arkansas Tech and Harding, before meeting Ouachita Baptist in a neutral site tilt to close out October.
  • The Lady Muleriders are 19-0 against non-NCAA teams since becoming a charter member of the Great American Conference in 2011. Last season, SAU defeated Central Baptist College twice and tonight's opponent, WBC, once.
  • This is Southern Arkansas' first non-NCAA opponent in 2016.
