Lady Muleriders fall to Southeastern Oklahoma in four sets

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – After winning the opening set that saw the Lady Muleriders turn a 10-6 deficit into a 20-12 advantage, Southern Arkansas was unable to hold on to the momentum as Southeastern Oklahoma State won the next three sets to take the Great American Conference match (25-20,18-25,12-25,13-25) on Saturday afternoon inside the W.T. Watson Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • The aforementioned 14-2 run by Southern Arkansas opened the first set up as the Lady Muleriders benefited from seven Southeastern Oklahoma attack errors as SAU won the opening set 25-20.
  • A 5-0 run and a trio of 3-0 runs by the Savage Storm helped even the match at one set apiece as SAU committed a match-high 10 errors in an 18-25 set two loss.
  • Southeastern Oklahoma had all the momentum in the final two sets as Southern Arkansas recorded a negative attack percentage. The Savage Storm committed just seven errors and launched 26 kills to take the final two sets by scores of 25-12 and 25-13 respectively.
  • The two teams averaged an attack percentage of just .114 as strategic serving played a key role for each team's ability to set up their respective offenses. SE recorded eight service aces, while SAU produced four.
  • A combined 49 attack errors were committed, as SE improved from 10 in the opening frame to just an average of four during the final three sets.

  • Abby Jameson delivered a game-high 18 kills for the Savage Storm and Brittney Owens and Karine Cavalcante added 10 kills each.
  • Jameson and Alissa Benson each collected three service aces.
  • Benson registered a double-double with a game-high 46 assists and 17 digs. Caitlin Cosby led SE with a game-high 29 digs.
 
OF NOTE
 
  • Southern Arkansas remains in a tie for eighth-place with East Central, after the Tigers' three-set loss to UAM on Saturday. SAU holds the potential tie-breaker over ECU for the final spot to Hot Springs, while Southeastern Oklahoma positioned themselves for a potential push at the eighth and final spot as well.
  • SAU drops to 6-3 inside the W.T. Watson Center this season.
  • The Lady Muleriders are a win away from their tenth win of the season. It would be the seventh season in a row that the Lady Muleriders have recorded a ten or more wins.

  • Southern Arkansas plays just once next week as they travel to Monticello for a GAC clash with the Blossoms. UAM defeated SAU in five-sets in Magnolia earlier this season. First-serve from inside Steelman Fieldhouse on Thursday, October 27 is set for 6 p.m.
