Tipping OffThe Southern Arkansas women's basketball team is looking to get back on the winning track as they close out their second Oklahoma road swing of the year with a matchup
against Southern Nazarene this Saturday at 1Â p.m.
In their most-recent action, the Lady Muleriders suffered their first road loss of the season as Oklahoma Baptist upended SAU 89-81. In that game, the Lady Muleriders trailed by as much as 21 points in the fourth quarter before battling back in the frame to close the gap to single-digits by the final horn.
Historically, road games at Southern Nazarene have not been kind to the Lady Muleriders as they are 0-3 at the Sawyer Center since the all-time series began in 2013-14.

LADY MULERIDER NEWS AND NOTESThe Southern Arkansas women's basketball team enters play on Saturday with a 7-2 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the Great American Conference. The Lady Muleriders are looking to rebound after dropping their first road game of the year last Thursday at Oklahoma Baptist. Prior to that loss, the Lady Muleriders were on a modest two-game winning streak.
On the season, the Lady Muleriders are averaging 78.0 points per game while allowing their opponents to score an average of 68.6 points per game for a scoring margin of +9.4. Their points per game average ranks third in the GAC, while their scoring defense ranks fifth and their scoring margin ranks second within the league.
As a team, the Lady Muleriders are shooting .473 (278-of-588) overall from the floor which includes a shooting mark of .326 (43-of-132) from long range. From the free throw line, the Lady Muleriders are shooting .644 (103-of-160). Their overall field goal percentage ranks first in the GAC while their 3-point field goal percentage ranks fifth. At the charity stripe the Lady Muleriders' percentage ranks 12th.
In terms of individual production, the Lady Muleriders have two players averaging double figures with
Rosa Bryant leading the way at 22.1 points per game. Bryant's scoring average currently ranks second in the GAC and sixth in DII. The other player averaging double figures is
Shana Holmes at 13.7 ppg. Bryant is also the team's leading rebounder at 12.6 rebounds per game. Additionally, Bryant's rebounding average currently ranks third in DII, making Bryant the only player to rank in the top-10 in each stat category.
Defensively, the Lady Muleriders have forced 159 turnovers with 75 of those being steals. Additionally, the Lady Muleriders are allowing their opponents to shoot at a clip of .382 (213-of-557) overall from the floor and .346 (65-of-188) from beyond the arc.
COACHThe Lady Muleriders are coached by
Julio Pacheco, who is in his first season at Southern Arkansas. Prior to becoming the head coach at SAU, Pacheco spent seven seasons as the assistant coach at Arkansas Tech where he helped guide the Golden Suns to the NCAA Tournament four times, advancing as far as the Elite Eight twice. Also while at Tech, Pacheco helped the Golden Suns capture four regular season championships and three conference tournament championships.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENEThe Southern Nazarene women's basketball team enters play on Saturday with a 2-6 overall record and a 1-4 mark in the Great American Conference. The Crimson Storm also enter the game on a five-game losing streak with their last win coming in late November when they beat Midwestern State, 68-56.
On the season, the Crimson Storm are averaging 66.2 points per game while allowing their opponents to score an average of 73.2 points per game for a scoring margin of -7.0. Their points per game average ranks 10th in the GAC, while their scoring defense ranks ninth and their scoring margin ranks 10th within the league.
As a team, the Crimson Storm are shooting .405 (199-of-491) overall from the floor which includes a shooting mark of .308 (44-of-143) from long range. From the free throw line, the Crimson Storm are shooting .662 (88-of-133). Their overall field goal percentage ranks sixth in the GAC while their 3-point field goal percentage ranks ninth.
At the charity stripe the Crimson Storm's percentage ranks 10th. In terms of individual production, the Bison have three players averaging double figures with Abby Boyd leading the way at 18.4 points per game. Boyd's points per game currently rank her fourth in the GAC. Behind Boys is Rachel Doerneman at 10.9 ppg. Danielle Gaddis
rounds out double-figure scoring at 10.0 ppg to rank third on the team.
Defensively, the Crimson Storm have forced 134 turnovers with 59 of those being steals. Additionally, the Crimson Storm are allowing their opponents to shoot at a clip of .425 (207-of-489) overall from the floor and .308 (55-of-169) from beyond the arc.
COACHThe Crimson Storm are coached by Derek Dorris, who is in his fourth season at Southern Nazarene. In his previous three seasons, Dorris has amassed a 41-42 overall record. His best season thus far was his first at the helm as he led the Crimson Storm to a 21-10 record, culminating in a NCCAA National Championship.

THE SERIESThis is will be the seventh meeting all-time between the Lady Muleriders and the Crimson Storm with all their games coming as GAC rivals. In the brief series history, SNU holds a 5-1 advantage with SAU's lone win in the series coming in the first meeting last season, a 63-42 win in Magnolia.
ON TAPThe Lady Muleriders will return home next Thursday and welcome in Henderson State for a GAC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.inside the W.T. Watson Center.
