Tipping OffThe Southern Arkansas men's basketball team will be looking to build off of the momentum garnered by their most-recent victory against East Central as the Muleriders
close out their week-long, three-game home stand against Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday.
In that game against ECU, the Muleriders defense was out-standing, holding the GAC's top scoring team and top individual scorer to well below their respective season averages. As far as Saturday's game, the Muleriders will be looking to exact some revenge on Southeastern Oklahoma after the Savage Storm beat the Muleriders 87-78 at their place back in mid-November.

MULERIDER NEWS & NOTESThe Southern Arkansas men's basketball team enters play this Saturday with a 10-8 overall record and a 7-5 mark in the Great American Conference. The Muleriders are coming off a big 76-66 win at home against East Central in their last game played. Additionally, over their last eight games, the Muleriders are 6-2.
On the season, the Muleriders are averaging 77.2 points per game, which ranks fifth in the GAC. Defensively, the Muleriders rank sixth in scoring defense in the GAC at 75.2 points per game, and their +2.0 scoring margin ranks fifth in the league.
As a team, the Muleriders are shooting .467 (520-of-1,113) overall from the floor which includes a shooting mark of .332 (116-of-349) from long range. From the free throw line, the Muleriders are shooting .623 (233-of-374). Their overall field goal percentage ranks second in the GAC while their 3-point field goal percentage ranks 10th. At the charity stripe the Muleriders' percentage ranks 12th.
Individually, the Muleriders have five players who are averaging double figures in scoring with
Jaron Davis leading the team at 15.2 points per game. Davis's scoring average ranks 12th in the GAC. Deon Andrews is next on the team at 11.7 ppg.
CJ Elkins is next averaging 11.5 ppg.
Denarious Lockhart follows with 11.4 ppg. and rounding out double-figure scoring on the season is
Alvin Braddock at 10.2 ppg.
The leading rebounder on the team in terms of rebounding average in Lockhart with 6.5 rpg through 10 games played. Braddock, however, leads the team in total rebounds with 114. Davis is the top assist man on the team with an average of 4.8 assists per game.
COACHThe Muleriders are coached by
Andy Sharpe, who is in his fourth season at Southern Arkansas. In his time at SAU, Sharpe has amassed a 41-51 overall record. Last season Sharpe led SAU to a 15-12 overall record and finished tied for third in the GAC with an 11-9 mark in the league. The above .500 season was the program's first winning campaign since the 2001-02 season, while the 15 wins overall tied for the second-most wins in a season since SAU joined NCAA Division II prior to the 1995-96 season. Additionally, the 11 conference wins were the most in the DII era.

SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMAThe Southeastern Oklahoma men's basketball team enters play this Saturday with a 6-12 overall record and a 4-8 mark in the Great American Conference. The Savage Storm are coming off of a loss in their last game, an 82-64 loss at Arkansas-Monticello. The Savage Storm are also 1-7 this season on the road.
On the season, the Savage Storm are averaging 74.2 points per game, which ranks eighth in the GAC. Defensively, the Savage Storm rank 12th in scoring defense in the GAC at 82.2 points per game, and their -8.0 scoring margin ranks 12th in the league.
As a team, the Savage Storm are shooting .446 (466-of-1046) overall from the floor which includes a shooting mark of .346 (146-of-422) from long range. From the free throw line, the Savage Storm are shooting .693 (257-of-371). Their overall field goal percentage ranks seventh in the GAC while their 3-point field goal percentage ranks eighth. At the charity stripe the Savage Storm's percentage ranks sixth.
Individually, the Savage Storm have two players who are averaging double figures in scoring with Anton Cook leading the team at 16.3 points per game. Cook's scoring average ranks seventh in the GAC. Sami Bzai rounds out double-digit scoring at 15.3 ppg. while Nathan Jackson is just outside that mark at 9.9 ppg.
Jackson is the leading rebounder on the team at 6.1 rebounds per game. Bzai is the top assist man on the team with an average of 3.1 assists per game.
COACHThe Savage Storm are coached by Kelly Green, who is in his fifth year at Southeastern Oklahoma. In his previous four seasons, Green has amassed a 51-61 overall record. Prior to coming to Southeastern, Green was a head coach for 14 seasons at Arizona Western Junior College where he went 342-107.

THE SERIESThis will be the 30th meeting since the beginning of the 1997-1998 season between the Muleriders and the Savage Storm. In that time, Muleriders hold a 15-14 lead in the series. This will also be the second meeting this year between the two teams with Southeastern coming away with an 87-78 win at home.
ON TAPThe Muleriders will hit the road for their third Oklahoma swing of the season, this time making stops in Alva to take on Northwestern Oklahoma on Thursday, February 4 and Weatherford to take on Southwestern Oklahoma on Saturday, February 6.
