Harding uses big fourth quarter, late rally to slip by Lady Muleriders, 83-74

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Tierra Tucker scored a season-high 22 points and Rosa Bryant recorded her 12th double-double of the season, but Harding outscored the Lady Muleriders 32-12 in the fourth quarter to overcome a 13-point deficit as they picked up an 83-74 road win over Southern Arkansas on Monday evening inside the W.T. Watson Center.

The Lady Muleriders (11-4, 7-4 GAC) led by 16 with 2:21 left in the third quarter and took an 11-point advantage, 62-51, into the final quarter of action, before the Lady Bisons (10-5, 8-3 GAC) used a 15-6 run to pull within a basket at 68-66 with 5:59 remaining in the fourth quarter. Five quick points by Tucker cushioned the lead for SAU, but three inside buckets and a free throw from Harding tied the game at 73 with 2:49 left.

A Lady Bisons three-pointer from Falan Miller just north of the one-minute to play mark gave Harding a 76-74 lead, before they used a 7-0 run in the final 35 seconds to slip by Southern Arkansas.

Tucker's scoring night came on 8-of-14 shooting and she picked up six rebounds and a pair of steals. Bryant's delivery of her 12th double-double came heavy as she dropped 17 points, while collecting 16 rebounds and adding three assists and two steals. It was her 13th game this season with 15 or more points and her eighth game of the year with a dozen or more rebounds.

Shana Holmes added 15 points and a game-high six assists, while Caroline Ficher rounded out double-figure scoring for SAU with ten.

SAU trailed by nine with just under four minutes to play in the opening quarter and used a 13-2 run to close the frame and take a 22-18 lead in the second quarter, where they again outscored Harding 22-18 on their way to an eight-point halftime lead.

Southern Arkansas outscored the Lady Bisons in the paint, 46-30, and in fast break points, 14-2. But Harding saw their bench outscore SAU's bench 19-6, while the Lady Bisons collected 17 second-chance points to SAU's seven.

The Lady Muleriders rest in a three-way tie for third-place in the league standings and will continue play at home as they welcome in East Central on Thursday, January 28, for a Great American Conference affair slated for 5:30 p.m.; beginning the second-half of the conference schedule. SAU topped East Central 63-59 in the GAC opener on November 19.
