Bryant, Holmes, and Nevitt power Lady Muleriders past Arkansas-Monticello, 75-59

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Behind Rosa Bryant's tenth double-double and 16 points apiece from Shana Holmes and Shunta Nevitt, Southern Arkansas powered past Arkansas-Monticello 75-59 in a Great American Conference affair on Monday evening inside Steelman Fieldhouse.

The win is the Lady Muleriders' (10-3, 6-3) tenth victory of the season, which tops their nine-win campaign from a year ago and in the process keeps them among the top-three spots in the GAC standings. The Blossoms had won three straight against SAU and it was the Lady Muleriders' first win inside Steelman Fieldhouse since a 66-65 win on February 24, 2011.

Bryant's double-double came with 25 points on 12-of-15 shooting and 11 rebounds in 31 minutes of action. Holmes' produced her 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting in a team-high 39 minutes, while Nevitt manufactured career-highs in points with 16 and minutes played with 32.

UAM dominated in points off of turnovers outscoring SAU 20-8; including a 13-2 effort in the opening quarter, but Southern Arkansas outscored the Blossoms 38-26 in the paint and shot a season-high 60.3% (35-58) from the floor. A 22-9 third quarter by the Lady Muleriders proved to be the difference as SAU led 59-45 heading into the final quarter.

In that pivotal third quarter, Nevitt and Bryant each collected eight points and Tierra Tucker scored six of her eight points in the quarter. SAU attempted a season-low five shots from the charity stripe; converting two.

Tucker finished with seven rebounds, six assists and a pair of steals and Nevitt added six rebounds and a pair of blocks.

The Lady Muleriders will welcome in Harding on Thursday, January 21, for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off before hitting the road again for a 1 p.m. tip-off with Ouachita Baptist on Saturday, January 23.
