MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Lady Mulerider Volleyball team fell short inside the W.T. Watson Athletic Center on Tuesday night as Ouachita came away with a 3-0 match win (25-22, 25-16, 25-23) in the second GAC contest for both schools this season.
Sophomore
Alli O'Banion led Southern Arkansas (4-7) with 12 kills, while senior setter
Taylor Reaume logged her eleventh-consecutive 30+ assist game and eighth game this season with 35 or more assists.
Ouachita attacked at a three-set average of .287, including a match-high .317 in the opening set. A
Serena LeDuff kill gave way to a 7-1 Tiger run that opened the first frame of action. Halfway through the opening set, SAU took a 15-14 advantage on a kill by O'Banion, but a second 7-1 run pushed Ouachita through the opening set as the SAU was held to an attack percentage of .156.
A 9-3 run midway through the second set pushed Ouachita out front with a 20-13 lead, before a pair of Tiger kills and a trio of Southern Arkansas attack errors gave OUA a 2-0 match lead.
O'Banion along with senior
Emilie Aase and junior
Gillian Newman battled offensively for the Lady Muleriders in the third set as the trio combined for 11 kills, while a pair of powerful point-producing attacks by O'Banion closed the gap for SAU before Ouachita escaped a fourth set with a soft-touch kill that ended the match.
