ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Southern Arkansas baseball team saw its 2015 season come to a close on Saturday afternoon as they fell in an elimination game in the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament to No. 1-ranked and top-seeded St. Cloud State by a score of 4-0 at Joe Faber Field.
The Muleriders (40-18) end the year with 40 wins, making it the seventh year out of the last 10 that SAU has reached the 40-win mark.
In Saturday's game, the Muleriders found themselves down 3-0 early after the Huskies (53-4) plated three runs on just one hit in the bottom of the first inning off of SAU starter
Yumezo Densaki. Densaki would settle in, however, after that first inning and kept the Muleriders in the game as he held the Huskies off the board for the remainder of his outing, which lasted 5.1 innings before he gave way to reliever
Jared Fielden.
Fielden entered the game with two on and one out in the sixth and the junior right-hander retired the next two batters to keep it a 3-0 game through six. Fielden then fired a scoreless seventh inning, but St. Cloud scratched across a run off of Fielden in the eighth to bring the game to its eventual final of 4-0.
