Lady Muleriders eliminated from GAC Tournament

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas softball team suffered a pair of losses on Thursday which led to their elimination from the fourth annual Great American Conference Tournament in Bentonville, Arkansas.

The Lady Muleriders (26-24) finished the season above .500 for the second straight year for the first time in 10 years when the program accomplished the feat in 2004 and 2005. Southern Arkansas also set single season school records for team batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage in 2015.

In their tournament opener, Southern Arkansas faced Great American Conference Pitcher of the Year in Henderson State's Michelle Sorenson and the freshman was stout in the circle allowing only one baserunner via walk in a five-inning no hitter. All-GAC performer Ashton Atwell reached on a first inning base-on-balls.

Facing elimination, the Lady Muleriders battled Harding to a scoreless tie through two innings of action, before the Lady Bisons plate a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings and added an insurance run in the sixth inning to stave off elimination with a 5-0 win.

Seniors Chelsea Ivy, Audrey Farfan, and Sarah Higginbotham accounted for SAU's three hits, while Maddie Dow joined the latter two in the walk column.
