ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The No. 25-ranked Southern Arkansas baseball team fell on the road by a score of 8-2 in the series-opener against Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon at Rab Rodgers Field.
The Muleriders (15-9, 6-4 GAC) fell behind early in the game against the Tigers (10-5, 6-0 GAC) as OBU plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.
SAU would respond to the early deficit in the next inning, however, as the Muleriders scored a pair of runs of their own on three hits to knot the game at two-all. In that inning, both runs would come home on a two-RBI single through the left side off the bat of
Chase Harvey. Additionally, those runs would come with two outs as
Justin Buchanan and
Chris Quinn each singled to extend the inning and bring the lineup back around to Harvey.
In the bottom of the third, OBU would re-gain the lead on a leadoff homerun by Justin Weigle. An inning later, the Tigers added to more runs to take a 5-2 lead.
That score would remain over the fifth and sixth innings, but the Tigers would add an insurance run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to bring the game to its eventual final of 8-2.
Preston Gray would take the loss for the Muleriders and fell to 4-3 on the year after working 6.1 innings with nine hits allowed, six runs, one walk, and three strikeouts.
The Muleriders and Tigers are set to conclude their series with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon starting at noon. Fans can follow the game through live stats:
