MAGNOLIA, Ark. – After bookending their Thanksgiving holiday with a 26-point win over Williams Baptist on Monday (Nov. 23) as well as a 19 point win over Central Baptist College on Saturday (Nov. 28), the Southern Arkansas Mulerider basketball team is set to welcome in Great American Conference-foe Northwestern Oklahoma St. for the first home-GAC matchup of the 2015-16 season. Tip-off from Magnolia is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Muleriders (4-2, 1-1 GAC) have four games remaining on the 2015 portion of their schedule as they will play host to Southwestern Oklahoma St. on Saturday, December 5, before tipping-off twice in the Quincy University Classic, hosted by the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Quincy University on December 19 and 20.
Early on, Southern Arkansas has benefited from quality guard play as seniors
Jaron Davis (19.0 ppg) and
Deon Andrews (14.2 ppg) and redshirt-freshman
CJ Elkins (11.2 ppg) are all currently posting double-digit scoring averages, while combining for 43 assists and 26 steals. All three are currently in the top-30 in scoring in the league, while Davis dishes out the third-best assists per game mark of 5.3.
Inside, the Muleriders counter with a trio of big men in seniors
Alvin Braddock and
Kevin Jordan along with junior newcomer
Tony Aska. Collectively the group brings down 18.1 rebounds per game, led by Braddock's fifth-best GAC mark of 7.3. Jordan adds 6.5 boards a contest; the 12
th-highest total in the league. Aska places third in the conference with 1.7 blocked shots per game and Braddock ranks sixth with 1.3.
For Northwestern Oklahoma (0-5, 0-2 GAC), they are led by four players that are currently producing 10 or more points per game led by Adrian Motley's 17.6 ppg. Motely also leads the team in rebounding with 7.0 rpg, while Brandon Green is currently second in the league in assists with 5.4 a game. T'aries Taylor shoots 85% from the charity stripe and averages 12.2 points and a pair of steals a contest.
In terms of GAC play, Southern Arkansas has a win over East Central and a loss to Southeastern Oklahoma St (currently tied atop the standings), while Northwestern has dropped a pair of games to Arkansas Tech and Harding.
