SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMAThe Southeastern Oklahoma basketball team enters play this afternoon with a 2-1 overall record and a 1-0 mark in the Great American Conference. That conference win came in the Savage Storm's most-recent game as they beat Arkansas-Monticello at home by a score of 73-65.
On the young season, the Savage Storm are averaging 78.7 points per game, which ranks second in the GAC. Defensively, the Savage Storm have 6th-ranked scoring defense in the GAC at 75.3 points per game and their +3.3 scoring margin ranks fifth in the league. Individually, three players for the Savage Storm are averaging double figures with Sami Bzai leadin the way at 21.0 points per game. Bzai is currently one of six players in the GAC averaging over 20 points per game.
COACHThe Savage Storm are coached by Kelly Green, who is in his fifth season as the head coach at Southeastern Oklahoma. In his first four seasons, Green has amassed a 51-61 overall record. Prior to his time at Southeastern, Green spent 14 seasons as the head coach at Arizona Western where he guided that junior college program to a 342-107
record.
LAST YEAR/LAST TIME OUTThis will be the first meeting this year between the Muleriders and the Savage Storm. Last year, the two teams met twice and it was the Muleriders who came away victorious in each game. In the mostrecent matchup, SAU beat the Savage Storm 90-82 in Durant.
THE SERIESThis is the 44th meeting all-time between Southern Arkansas and Southeastern Oklahoma with SAU holding a 24-19 lead in the series. Since the two became conference rivals at the beginning of the 2011-12 season, the Muleriders hold a 6-2 record including wins in each of the last four games.
ON TAPThe Muleriders will play their first game at home inside the W.T. Watson Center on Monday, November 23 as they play host to Williams Baptist College in non-conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
