Lady Mulerider Hoops ready for season’s first big test at Texas A&M-Commerce

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – After tipping off the 2015-16 season with a 72-68 victory at Philander Smith College this past weekend, the Southern Arkansas Women's Basketball team is prepared for their first big test of the season as they hit the road for a nonconference affair with Texas A&M-Commerce this evening at 5:30 p.m. inside The Field House.

The Lady Muleriders (1-0) win last Saturday against the NAIA-Lady Panthers was powered by a double-double (20 points, 13 boards) from senior forward Rosa Bryant as well as 17 points from sophomore forward Aleeya Harris as SAU picked up their first season-opening win since the 2009-10 season. That season was also the last time Southern Arkansas started 2-0 after picking up wins over Jarvis Christian and Arkansas-Fort Smith.

SAU will face a formidable opponent in Commerce (1-1), members of the Lone Star Conference, who finished 14-14 and 7-9 in the always competitive LSC a season ago. The Lions defeated Southern Arkansas last year in Magnolia 54-52.

Early on, Commerce is led by Khala Riley who averages 13 points a game, while shooting over 42% from the floor. Audrisa Harrison leads the Lions with seven rebounds a game. Defensively, TAMUC has forced 16 steals and owns a +2 turnover margin.
