MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas Volleyball team is set to travel to Arkadelphia tonight for their final road contest of the season as they matchup with Ouachita inside Bill Vining Arena with a first-serve slated for 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Muleriders (16-13, 7-7 GAC) are currently seventh in the Great American Conference standings and could move into a four-way tie for sixth with Northwestern Oklahoma, Harding and Ouachita via an SAU win and a Lady Bisons loss to Arkansas Tech.
Tonight's tilt will feature two of the top offensive teams in the GAC as both the Tigers (.229/2
nd) and Lady Muleriders (.211/4
th) boast top-five hitting percentages, top-five kills per set totals and top-five assist per set totals. OBU is second in kills per set with 12.82, just ahead of Southern Arkansas' third-pace clip of 12.64. The Tigers are third is assists per set at 11.93, just shy of SAU's assist per set mark of 11.94.
For Southern Arkansas, junior outside hitter
Serena LeDuff paces an SAU offensive attack with 3.81 kills per set (3
rd/GAC) and 4.24 points per set (3
rd/GAC). She leads the league in total kills with 411; the lone player with 400 or more kills so far this season. Senior setter
Taylor Reaume engineers the Lady Mulerider attack with 10.17 assists per set (3
rd/GAC), while producing the most assists in the GAC with 1,139.
Three Lady Muleriders claim top-ten service ace per set totals led by sophomore
Savannah Pillow's mark of .41 (4
th/GAC), followed by junior
Paige Mays' .34 per set (7
th/GAC) and LeDuff's .31 per set (9
th/GAC).
Defensively, Southern Arkansas is third in digs per set at a clip of 17.08, led by junior defensive specialist
Hannah Rice's 5.50 per set (2
nd/GAC). Junior transfers
Kaitlyn Reiner and
Gillian Newman pace a front row defense with .74 and .71 blocks per set respectively, while Reiner is tied with sophomore
Alli O'Banion for the team lead with 59.
The Tigers allow opponents to hit at a clip of .191, the fifth-highest mark in the league. Ouachita is fourth in blocks at 1.71 per set, while they average 16.02 digs per set (7
th/GAC).
Senior Abby Pickett leads the offensive attack for the Tigers with 3.92 kills per set (1
st/GAC), 4.23 points per set (4
th/GAC) and an attack percentage of .313 (6
th/GAC). Sophomore Kori Bullard compliments Pickett with an attack clip of .275 (10
th/GAC), while averaging 2.95 kills per set (9
th/GAC). Freshman Stormi Leonard leads the conference in assists per set with 10.98.
In September, Ouachita defeated the Lady Muleriders in three sets, before Southern Arkansas won six of their next seven matches to help propel themselves into November.
