Lady Muleriders pick up non-conference win with 3-1 victory over Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Southern Arkansas Lady Mulerider Volleyball team picked up a non-conference win on Tuesday evening inside Canale Arena as they defeated Gulf South Conference-affiliated Christian Brothers 3-1 (18-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-21) after dropping the opening set.

Senior setter Taylor Reaume logged 34 of SAU's 41 assists as she recorded her 19th game of the year with 30 or more assists. Reaume added ten digs as she registered her sixth double-double of the season.

The Lady Muleriders (10-8) attacked at a match average of .221, while registering 44 kills. Junior Serena LeDuff led all players with 15 kills and sophomore Alli O'Banion added ten kills. After losing the first set, 25-18, Southern Arkansas bounced back after allowing CBU to hit at a percentage of .375 in the opening frame. Over the next three sets, the SAU defense held the Lady Bucs to an attack percentage average of only .160.

Defensively, junior Hannah Rice led Southern Arkansas with 15 digs, while sophomore Savannah Pillow added ten digs.

The Lady Bucs produced more kills, blocks, assists and digs than the Lady Muleriders did, but it was all about momentum and point-scoring runs for SAU. Tied at 14 in the second set, a 4-0 Southern Arkansas run eventually blossomed into an 11-4 run that tied the match at a set apiece. In the third set, SAU weathered a 5-0 start and a 13-6 advantage by CBU as they chipped away at the lead to tie the set at 18. A 7-4 run closed out the third set; before a critical 5-1 run broke a 17-17 tie in the fourth set and gave SAU the match win.

The Lady Muleriders continue on the road as they head west for a two-game GAC swing in Oklahoma. On Friday, Southern Arkansas will matchup with Southwestern Oklahoma State (Friday, October 9) in Weatherford, Oklahoma, beginning at 6 p.m., before turning around for an 11 a.m. first-serve with Northwestern Oklahoma State (Saturday, October 10) in Alva, Oklahoma.
