MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Former Southern Arkansas catcher Jamie Pogue will be a part of the 2014 Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Game tonight (July 15) as he will serve as the bullpen catcher/instructor for the National League.
Pogue, a former St. Louis Cardinal farmhand, was selected by current Cardinals manager Mike Matheny as part of his coaching staff for the mid-summer classic in Minnesota. Pogue has spent the past three seasons as a catching coach and bullpen catcher for St. Louis
In his senior season at SAU in 1999, Pogue led the team with nine homeruns, 61 RBI, a .643 slugging percentage, 68 runs scored, 39 walks, eight hit-by-pitches and a .521 on-base percentage. He was also second on the squad with a .405 batting average, 17 doubles, and 75 hits, and had a 33 percent success rate throwing out runners from behind the plate. Those outstanding numbers resulted in Pogue being named All-Gulf South Conference First-Team and earning All-South Central Region accolades. Pogue later signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cardinals.
