Steve Browning has announced that head softball coach Corey Lyon has resigned from SAU to take a similar position at the University of Louisiana-Monroe. A nationwide search has already begun to find a replacement.
"We want to thank Corey for his three years of leading our softball program," noted Browning. "In his time here, he has elevated SAU softball to new heights and has propelled the program towards the top of the Great American Conference and region."
Lyon leaves SAU with a 90-89 overall record. In his three years at SAU, Lyon's teams won more games than the previous season. This past season, the Lady Muleriders enjoyed their best season in program history as they went 37-26 and made the program's first-ever NCAA regional tournament after they captured their first GAC Tournament Championship.
One of the youngest and most talented teams in the GAC this past season; the Lady Muleriders are set to return all nine starters from their record-setting lineup in addition to returning a three-arm pitching staff that logged all but 18.1 innings in the circle last season.
