Lynn out-duels Conley in 2-1 Mulerider win in series-opener

Box Score

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Senior right-hander Dylan Lynn pitched the No. 4-ranked Southern Arkansas baseball team to a close 2-1 win over Southeastern Oklahoma in the series-opener on Saturday afternoon at Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field.

Lynn (6-1) would work eight strong innings as he collected his sixth win of the season. In the start, Lynn would scatter six hits, allow one unearned run, walk two and strikeout nine as he out-dueled Southeastern starter Canyon Conley. Conley would work 6.2 innings while allowing nine hits and two earned runs. He would also walk two, hit three batters and strike out six.

Lynn would get both runs of support in the bottom of the third inning when Trevor Rucker capped off a lengthy at-bat with a two-run single to left-centerfield, scoring William Townsend and Tyler Cameron. Prior to that two-run knock, Rucker had fouled off a rash of 0-2 pitches to stay alive in the at-bat.

That 2-0 advantage would remain until the top of the seventh when the Savage Storm (14-15, 6-10 GAC) scratched across their lone run of the game on a sacrifice fly off the bat of pinch-hitter Collin Sefcik.

After eventually working out of the seventh inning with just that one run surrendered, Lynn returned to the mound for the eighth inning. Now over 100 pitches, Lynn looked stronger than any inning prior as he made quick work of the Savage Storm by striking out the side in order.

Still with a one-run lead, the Muleriders (26-7, 13-6 GAC) then turned to their closer Preston Gray in the ninth. Similarly to Lynn in the eighth, Gray would make quick work of the Savage Storm as he retired the side in order to secure his eighth save of the season.

The Muleriders and Savage Storm will conclude their series on Sunday as they are set to play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
