Crimson Storm use second half surge to work past Lady Muleriders, 74-58

Box Score

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – After holding a three-point lead at halftime, the Southern Arkansas women's basketball team was out-scored 44-25 in the second half as Southern Nazarene came away with a 74-58 win on Thursday night in the W.T. Watson Center.

The opening half was a closely-contested half as there were eight tie scores and two lead changes. Additionally, the largest lead either team would hold through the first 20 minutes was four points. By half's end, the Lady Muleriders (11-11, 7-9 GAC) went into the locker room with a three-point lead, 33-30, thanks to a made three-pointer by Allie Wade that broke a 30-all tie with 29 seconds left.

Through the first 13 minutes or so of the second half, the close play that characterized the opening half remained true as the score was tied four times and the lead changed hands five times in that span. The final of those lead changes came at the 7:42 mark when SNU's Kristin Milster hit a three-pointer to break a 50-all tie.

On the Lady Muleriders' ensuing possession, Aarika Reyna answered back with a three-pointer of her own, knotting the game at 53-all. Over the next four minutes of play, however, the Crimson Storm would go on an 11-2 run to take the largest lead of the game for either team, nine points, 64-55, with 3:20 left to play.

A three-pointer by Wade with 3:10 left in the game broke that run and brought the Lady Muleriders to within six points, 64-58. That trifecta by Wade, however, would be the last points the Lady Muleriders would score in the game as the Crimson Storm controlled the clock and closed out the game on a 10-0 run to come away with a 74-58 win.

Chanel Miller would lead the team in scoring with 23 points. Behind her was Allie Wade with nine points. Miller also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

The Lady Muleriders will be back in action on Thursday, February 20 as they welcome in No.6-ranked Harding University. That game, which is scheduled to tip at 5:30 p.m., is CCAPS/Upward Basketball Night. Admission is free to everyone that night and donations for CCAPS will be taken at the door.
