NACOGDOCHES, Texas – For the third time this season, the Southern Arkansas women's basketball team took a break from their regular season to play an exhibition game against a NCAA Division I opponent. On Wednesday night that exhibition opponent was Stephen F. Austin and SFA would defeat SAU by a score of 73-50.
SFA (7-4) would lead the entire way out, but the Lady Muleriders (4-7) played valiantly throughout, particularly in the first half, as SAU kept the game within single digits for the entirety of the first 20 minutes. At the break, SFA would hold an eight-point lead, 34-26.
The solid effort by the Lady Muleriders remained in the second half as they were able to pull to within a single point, 37-36, with 14:49 left in the game. Over the next four and half minutes however, the Ladyjacks of SFA would go on a 12-3 run to push their lead out to double digits for the first time in the game at 49-39 with 10:28 remaining.
From that point on, SFA would maintain a comfortable lead and eventually swelled it to its peak of 23 points in the waning moments of the game.
A total of 14 players would see action on the court for the Lady Muleriders with 12 of those scoring.
Cemetra Jenkins would lead the team in scoring with eight points and next in line was
Tierra Tucker with seven points. Tucker would also lead the team with four assists.
The Lady Muleriders will now turn their attention towards Great American Conference play once more as Henderson State comes to the W.T. Watson Center on Saturday, January 3 for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
