LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas women's basketball team took to the road on Monday afternoon and ended up dropping a closely-contested game to Philander Smith College, 61-58, in non-conference action.
For the game, the Lady Muleriders (4-6) would struggle all-around shooting the ball as they went 23-of-63 (37%) overall from the floor and just 1-of-14 (7%) from beyond the arc. On the other end of the court, however, the shooting was even colder all-told as the Lady Muleriders were able to hold Philander Smith (9-1) to just 25% (16-of-65) shooting overall and 29% (4-of-14) from long range.
The difference in the game appeared to come from the charity stripe as the Lady Muleriders would shoot 13 less free throws than Philander Smith (34-to-21). In addition to the discrepancy of attempts, the Lady Muleriders would convert on just 52% of their chances as they went 11-for-21 from the line. Meanwhile, Philander Smith shot 74% from the free throw line as they went 25-of-34 for the game.
As a team, the Lady Muleriders would out-rebound Philander Smith 53-to-41 with 21 of the rebounds coming on the offensive glass.
