Volleyball completes regular-season sweep over Henderson

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas volleyball team saw double-digit kills from three different attackers to take down Henderson State in four sets (25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19) Thursday night at Duke Wells Center.

SAU (13-17, 7-7 GAC) took control early in the first set, scoring eight of the first 10 points on four kills from four different attackers. Henderson State (4-27, 0-14 GAC), however, would pull within one at 22-21 before a Lady Reddie error and Lady Mulerider block gave SAU a 24-21 advantage. After a Lady Reddie kill, freshman Alli O'Banion tipped a Taylor Reaume set to the floor to give the Lady Muleriders the first set.

After the second set came to a 4-4 tie, SAU pushed with six straight points on two kills and four Lady Reddie attacking errors. The Lady Muleriders built a 12-8 lead before scoring four straight to maintain a commanding 16-8 advantage. With the score at 24-19 in SAU's favor, junior Shelby Lauterbach's tip would be unreturnable to give the Lady Muleriders a 2-0 match lead.

After HSU took the third set 25-21, the Lady Muleriders took off to an 8-2 in the fourth set. Henderson State would go on a four-point run to pull within three at 17-14 before back-to-back Hailey McNee kills put the Lady Muleriders back in control. With the score at 22-19 in SAU's favor, the Lady Muleriders would close out the match by scoring the last three points on a kill apiece from Reaume and Monge.

Monge finished the night leading all attackers with 20 kills. McNee added 13 kills, and Lauterbach finished with her second double-double this season, firing a career-high 12 kills in addition to matching a career high with 17 digs. Sophomore Hannah Rice added 21 digs.

The Lady Muleriders return to action tomorrow at Texas College with first serve set for 6 p.m.
